These CAN have hip-hop or other elements to them, but make sure there is some Indian instruments like Bansuri or Sitar used (see below). Pay attention to the briefs and make it as authentic as you can. But mixing with EDM or Hip Hop and other styles is fine.

Upbeat. 2 mins ish (no longer than 2:30, no shorter than 1:50.

Indian musical instruments are traditionally classified into four main groups based on how they make sound: string instruments (Tat and Vitat), percussion drums (Avanaddha), wind instruments (Sushir), and self-sounding percussion or idiophones (Ghana)

String Instruments (Chordophones)

  • Sitar: Famous plucked long-necked lute with a deep, buzzing resonance.
  • Sarod: A fretless plucked lute with a smooth, deep, and emotional voice.
  • Veena: An ancient, elegant plucked string instrument central to South Indian Carnatic music.
  • Tanpura: A drone instrument that plays a continuous harmonic hum to anchor classical performances.
  • Sarangi: A bowed short-necked fiddle that closely mimics the human singing voice.
  • Santoor: A trapezoid-shaped hammered dulcimer played with lightweight wooden mallets.

Percussion (Membranophones & Idiophones)

  • Tabla: A pair of two distinct hand drums (treble and bass) used to drive rhythmic patterns in North Indian music.
  • Mridangam: A two-headed barrel drum that provides the rhythmic core for South Indian classical traditions.
  • Dholak: A two-sided folk drum popular in festive, devotional, and regional music.
  • Ghatam: A specialized clay pot played with the hands and fingers to create crisp, resonant percussive hits.
  • Manjira: Small brass finger cymbals used for devotional chants and rhythmic keeping.

Wind Instruments (Aerophones)

  • Bansuri: A simple side-blown bamboo flute known for peaceful, flowing melodies.
  • Shehnai: A double-reed conical oboe traditionally played at celebrations and weddings.

I’ll have even more stringent instructions on how I want files if I accept a song.

Here are the rules:

  • This will be a 50/50 split on writers split since I personally will be mixing and mastering every song (yes, even if you think you have the perfect mix.) I have to have all the parts the library will want.

Note: Due to the nature of this particular deal there are no sync payments for these songs. 50% PRO only.

You will sign a split sheet and deal memo directly with Positive Spin Songs only. You will not sign directly with the publihger.

  • Absolutely, no AI. And I will be running it through an AI checker. If it tells me it was made even 25% by AI, I won’t accept it (as the libraries won’t either.)
  • Also make sure all loops and samples are your own. Meaning you made them, or manipulated them beyond being recognizable. Another thing the libraries will also check and depend on.

OK, so that’s it. Here’s your chance. You say you want libraries to submit to. Anything I accept I will have you send me files and it will be included in the album I submit to the library.

But this needs to feel like real Bollywood, and have an uptempo, dance feel to it.

OK, that’s the brief. Good luck and I hope to hear from you.
